What is Hari Keerthan?

More Than a Performanceโ€”Itโ€™s a Celebration of the Soul.

Hari Keerthan is a 900-year-old musical tradition from the heart of India. It is a unique blend of storytelling, soulful singing, and rhythmic percussion. Unlike a standard concert where you simply listen, a Keerthan is participatory.

Led by the Kirtankar (the lead singer and storyteller), the audience is invited to join in the "Call and Response" chanting. It is designed to:

  • Quiet the Mind: Through the repetitive and meditative power of Namajapa (chanting).

  • Stir the Heart: Through the poetic beauty of Abhangs (devotional songs) composed by the great saints.

  • Energize the Spirit: Through the uplifting rhythm of the Taal (cymbals) and Mridangam (drums)

  • Whether you understand the language or not, the vibration of the music creates an atmosphere of pure joy and peace that transcends all barriers.
